The Tata Steel wire rod line in Gamharia, Jamshedpur, India, is running at higher operational efficiency and delivering better wire rod quality.

The upgrading project consisted of the supply and installation of two shearing units –a new crank shear and a new rotary shear– and also included an electrical and automation package by Danieli Automation.

The installation of the new shears addressed several critical issues, like poor cutting quality, misalignment, and frequent operational problems such as tail-cut carry forward, parking position errors, and internal/external leakages, which had been causing significant production losses and equipment damage.

The project, planned to be completed during a 20-day shutdown, involved continuous work by mechanical and automation experts from Danieli Service, who completed the task ahead of schedule.

Tata Steel Long Product expressed appreciation for the Danieli Service optimized procedures that made possible a timely startup of the new equipment and improved mill availability.
