Danieli Automation has developed a new technological solution based on the replacement of the cycloconverter control section, while keeping the existing thyristor power unit: ArcelorMittal Gent has awarded Danieli Automation the order for the revamp of its cycloconverter, instead of a complete power drive line replacement as previously done.

The new QCyclo control section finds its roots in the well-proven and consolidated QDrive control platform, representing the state of the art for LV & MV power converters in terms of flexibility, simplicity and reliability.

Some of the QCyclo control section technical features include:

• Control structure based on a powerful Danieli Automation Process Automation Controller (DA-PAC), always updatable in the future with the latest hardware and firmware revisions.
• Interface with existing Thyristors implemented with optical link and dedicated interface, installed on board of the thyristor modules, to ensure trouble-free operation even in the worst EMI environment.
• Erection & Commissioning stage with minimum impact on production. The QCyclo HW & SW platform will allow spreading the erection & commissioning stage over the weekly maintenance shutdown. Using a Shadow Commissioning Strategy and Fast Switching Hardware, the obsolete controller can be quickly excluded allowing to restore the full production capacity process in few hours.
• Maintenance software routine, for a fast system enquiring, diagnostics and tuning
• Control Architecture designed for Automatic Asset Management and Remote Assistance

Along with the supply of the new QCyclo control section, a complete reconditioning program of the existing power section can be performed and focused on bringing the whole cycloconverter power drive line to its condition “as factory delivered”.

The assets’ efficiency and durability can be ensured by means of DANIELI AUTOMATION’s Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Program applicable to the whole power drive line, transformer, power thyristor unit, motors and ancillary devices.
